Motivation:

Child poverty is a magnified issue among those countries due to a severe hit from the pandemic, family incomes have decreased and caused even less children to receive education and healthcare. In light of COVID, the depletion of oxygen tanks in India posed a great threat to the wellbeing of the country. Many families suffered from this tragedy and nonprofit organizations worldwide have stepped in to conduct a global effort, seeking donors willing to financially aid the residents in India in rebuilding their oxygen supply. Beginning from my childhood, I was influenced by my mother conducting charity for Nepal children. As a result, these issues in the Himalayan region have grown close to my heart. I thereby organized a team of like-minded individuals with a social mission to provide healthcare relief and a cultural exchange with the youth in the Himalayan region.

Our Services:

Through raising money from food drives and a walkathon, I built a foundation to tackle these prevalent issues of child poverty and COVID deficiencies in the Himalayan region, donating $7000 to international organizations such as BlinkNow Foundation and Make a Difference. These organizations not only support the restoration of oxygen in India and other Himalayan countries that suffer from COVID-related healthcare issues, but they also fund for the higher education of children and orphans in poverty, specifically those in Nepal. Our funds have generated a significant number of oxygen tanks for India, and we aim to organize more charity events in the future to continue our mission. We also conducted a cultural exchange with high school students in St. Joseph’s School of Nepal Children, hosting a virtual competition-style event through zoom using my knowledge gained from the NOVA entrepreneurship competition. We presented topics of human crises like COVID and family poverty to the students and propelled them to brainstorm ideas and service projects that could effectively address these issues. Each group of students presented their idea to our assigned judges and advisors, and the group with the most appealing and innovative solution idea won our prize money for donation to the charity of their choice.

Personal Impact and Beyond:

This competition I hosted brought important public health and public policy education to underprivileged children in Nepal, raising their awareness on contemporary issues. Personally, I gained a deeper insight on the culture and daily life habits of the Nepal community. These students, born to become orphans, taught me the significance of gratefulness and service. Although these students possessed terrible fate in their early years, they were pulled out of their troubles by the organization who founded the school particularly for orphans to receive well-rounded education through zoom. They inspired and motivated me to continue to provide underserved groups with invaluable educational opportunities, especially those of health education and healthcare, as these are important benefits to people’s wellbeing in the relatively resource-lacking areas of Asia.
